Sunshine Coast University Hospital Queensland
This month’s Sewalong is for Sunshine Coast University Hospital Queensland, who offer a range of free public healthcare services, supported by highly trained and specialised staff.
They are seeking our help to create a hospital gown kit for children and teenagers who have to go into theatre for a range of different medical procedures and scans. At present these children are wearing adult gowns that are far too large for them. With hospital visits already being a very daunting and scary process, the hospital thought it would be beneficial for the kids to have colourful, personalised gowns to wear at these appointments, which they can then take home for future appointments and scans.
Plus, thanks to Lindee Goodall, you can embroider a very special seahorse embroidery design onto your drawstring bag or gown.
Create this hospital gown kit for children and teens.
- Download the Hospital Gown Pattern (ZIP FILE, 65kb) or the Pattern PDF’s (Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3) created by Martyn Smith. Create a Hospital Gown using 100% cotton material.
Hint: Make sure you print the pattern as “Actual Size”. There is a test square to check the measurements.
- Follow the Hospital Gown Sewing Tutorial (PDF, 1MB).
ADD SOME EMBROIDERY
If you’re wanting to add some embroidery to your hospital gown to give it a fun theme, that would be ideal. Plus, Lindee has kindly donated this gorgeous seahorse embroidery design, which is free to download!
- Download the free Seahorse Embroidery Design (zip, 412MB)
This embroidery design is part of the Lindee Goodall Sea Friends design pack, available for only $39.95.

SENDING IN YOUR DONATIONS
If you are wanting to donate your kit or gown to the Sunshine Coast Hospital, please drop them off to any of the four Echidna store locations.
THINGS TO REMEMBER
These Sewalongs are a great way to get inspired by what everyone creates, while also giving to a worthy cause. If you’re new to sewing or embroidering then don’t despair, this is a great chance for you to get involved and have fun no matter what the outcome. Any excuse to put your sewing and embroidery machines to good use is a great one.
HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO CREATE THE PROJECT?
Since we are featuring a new charity each month, the September Sewalong will run from 1st – 30th September, 2017. You can view the full list of Charity Projects online.
We will also be giving away a number of Universal Magazine prizes which will be drawn on Monday, 10th October, 2017. However, we will also give away a number of prizes at random throughout the year, and your Sewalong project is able to be submitted for a chance, no matter which month it’s sent in.
To enter, simply take a photo of your finished project, then post it to our Echidna Facebook Community or email it to firstname.lastname@example.org.

I really enjoyed this sewalong – it was a chance to make a ‘proper’ garment and practice french seams.
