Sewing For Charity – January Sewalong

julie-ann-6Aussie Heroes

Our first Echidna sew along is for Aussie Hero Quilts – A blog dedicated to encouraging people to make quilts and laundry bags for Aussie service men and women currently serving overseas and to express our gratitude for their service.

We care about the people – not the politics or the mission. Our quilts are not works of art, but works of the heart.”

Sew Along Brief

  • January Sewalong will run from Jan 1st – Jan 31st.
  • We are asking you to create a laundry bag (download the pattern & instructions)
  • The colours, material and design will need to be themed appropriately for MEN only. (This is due to Aussie Heroes currently running low in men’s themed laundry bags)
  • These bags need to be unique so the service men can quickly find and locate their laundry bags. Therefore we ask you decorate them appropriately by sewing, quilting, embroidering, applique or with Flex/Flock transfers using your ScanNCut machine.

Things to remember

These sewalongs are a great way to get inspired by what everyone creates, while giving to a worthy cause. If you’re new to sewing or embroidering then don’t despair. This is a  great chance for you to get involved and have fun not matter what the outcome.

Baby or Toddler Sewing & Embroidery Ideas

One of the best reasons to get into sewing and embroidery is for the many incredible things you can create for children, toddlers or babies. If it’s for yourself, or for your friends, it’s a great way to save money and create something unique and incredibly gorgeous.

The following items can all be made on the Brother Innovis NV950 Sewing & Embroidery machine or similar combination machines.

Embroider Buddy – Whimsy Unicorn (Pink)

There is a large range of Embroider Buddies available, however for this gift idea I have chosen the Whimsy Unicorn in Pink. I downloaded the Too Cute Unicorn embroidery design from Urban Threads and imported the design into Embrilliance. I then added  my friend’s baby girls name, who is turning one over the weekend. The font below is called Jelly B 17mm, which is a BX Font by Lindee Goodall. However, there are plenty of fonts you can use or choose from.

Echidna Christmas Costume Party

We all love a good costume party and for the staff here at Echidna Sewing it was a chance to unleash some of our creative goodness. The theme of the night was Retro 50’s so the ideas for costumes ran wild. Different plans for sewing, embroidering and crafting all came to mind, especially with the incredible Brother machines sitting right at our doorstep. In the end there was a good mixture of outfits, which were all well thought about and planned to perfection.

Gary and Cindy, the owners of Echinda Sewing, converted their backyard into a 50’s diner with a bar, popcorn machine, jukebox and disco lights. As soon as we walked through the door we were transported back to the 50’s in epic style.

So without further ado, I bring you the photos of the night, including what we wore and how we created it (if it was handmade).
